Trump Confirms New Tariffs For 12 Countries, Letters To Go Out Monday
US President Donald Trump announced that 12 countries will receive formal letters soon, detailing new reciprocal tariff rates which will take effect from August 1. Donald Trump declined to name the countries, calling the approach more efficient than negotiating deals individually. He said, “I signed some letters and they’ll go out on Monday, probably twelve. Different amounts of money, different amounts of tariffs."
Donald Trump’s comments come amid high-stakes trade talks with several nations, including India, where negotiators recently concluded a round of discussions in Washington. However, the India has signaled reluctance to finalise any trade deal based on deadlines, with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal reiterating that national interest would take precedence.
Reuters reported, citing sources in the know, that trade letters sent by Donald Trump will carry what is effectively a “take it or leave it" offer- outlining tariff rates that the US expects its trading partners to accept if they wish to continue doing business under existing terms.
