Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan’s re-edited version out in theatres after 24 cuts
The re- edited version of Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan - as confirmed by one of the producers, Antony Perumbavoor - was screened at Thiruvananthapuram's Artech cinemas at 11.25 pm on Tuesday. The producer met the media on Tuesday and stated that they made the edits to the film without any external pressure. Two minutes and eight seconds of footage have been deleted after re-censoring.
L2: Empuraan was dragged into controversy over several scenes that appear to depict the 2002 Gujarat riots. After massive backlash from the public and right-wing supporters, the makers decided to go for re-censoring.
The film was re-censored by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which suggested 24 cuts, including the change of the villain's name from Baba Bajrangi to Baldev. The cuts also included the removal of minister-actor Suresh Gopi's name from the thank-you card and muting of references to the central agencies.
